I just wanted to say a big thank you for the wonderful day we had with you last week. The parent talk was very informative and the parents that attended the talk found the event extremely helpful for them to use the books in a much more functional way to help with the emotional growth of their children.

What delightful books! The day of the Clare’s visit arrived and although some of the littlest boys thought they were meeting an ‘Orphan’ and some an ‘Arthur’ Clare, (the author’s) thoughtful and supportive tales really won the day as did the toy versions of Clare’s pet characters. With a fun, whacky but very meaningful presentation Clare had the boys joining in with slurping, shivering and most important sharing as they thought about feelings and difficulties in life and how we can manage them just as her lovable ‘pups’ did. Clare raised the game as the boys got older giving them great tips for their own writing projects along with more insightful work on thoughts and feelings. I’m sure that everyone will be looking forward to her next books in the series coming out soon.

We were delighted to host Clare Luther of Head2Heart books in October to talk to our year 1-2 children about her ‘Little Paws Hotel’ series. Clare has visited us before, and we were very keen to have her visit again, so two gorgeous new books was a good excuse to invite her back. Clare’s talks are a lot of fun. She reads a story, brings along some lovely stuffed toy props and really engages the children in a chat about what is happening in the story and how they might relate it to their own feelings. The children were keen to be involved and tell Clare their thoughts and ideas. I know we can’t wait to have Clare back to visit us again when she has written her next story in the series.

Oak Montessori

Oak Montessori

Clare captured the hearts and attention of our little ones from the moment she walked into the Oak Montessori Nursery. Her energy and enthusiasm kept all 20 of our two and three year olds captivated during her reading. Questions were asked and stories were shared. Clare’s books address emotions and wellbeing with natural flare and Clare bought the characters to life before our very eyes. The children loved their session and many left with their own signed copies, much to their delight!

Clare creates an environment of awe and wonder from the very start of her session. The children are so keen to find out about the real characters from her stories and Clare shares this information through photographs and short anecdotes. Once the children are fully engaged she then immerses them into her stories, often with the children finishing off her rhymes for her. Clare’s enthusiasm is infectious and her investment in her work (including her doggy shoes, necklace and painted nails) isn’t overlooked by the students.

Clare’s beautiful books were brought to life with her wonderful animated story telling and delightful props. The children were so engaged in both the stories and the underlying themes that were so sensitively covered. Positive mental health has never been so important and these books allowed our children to talk about their feelings through empathising with the characters in the books. We were so pleased to hear that Clare is already working on a new set of books and we will look forward to her return for some more adventures from The Little Paws Hotel. Thank you for being a ray of sunshine.

Thank you for inspiring us all last Friday during your morning visit to Bevendean. Probably one of my favourite Speech Days to date. You pitched the speech perfectly for both the 3 year old audience to enjoy and the 6 year old children to activity participate and learn from. Everyone in our school community enjoyed meeting you and we all appreciated your boundless energy and enthusiasm.

We had an absolute ball on Friday. The boys were so enamoured by your fabulous books and couldn’t believe that we actually had a real live author!! We love the concept of your books and they deliver such important messages in an engaging and exciting way. The fact that some of our young authors in Year 1 were able to share their own books with you was incredible too! This has been such a strange year for us all, but you made things from outside the world of Abingdon Prep come alive for them.

I just wanted to send a quick message to say thank you for all of your help regarding organising Lucy and Clare’s visits to Ripley Court. We had such a wonderful World Book Day and a huge part of that was down to their presence. Clare was so warm, vivacious and had the children eating out of the palm of her hand and giggling with delight within seconds of them being sat down in the library. The Y5-Y6 Book Club absolutely loved her too, as did all the staff who met her! I feel every household needs her books and have already recommended her to teachers I know in other schools.

I strongly recommend that you email her and get her in when schools open up OR just buy her books!

The themes she writes about are fantastic. Such a talented writer and she really cares about the content; so much so, that she has worked with Educational Psychologists to ensure that the advice she gives via the stories is relevant for children and links with the PSHE curriculum. I have already booked her again for next year and bought a set of her books!

We were very lucky to have author Clare Luther spend the day with us yesterday. Clare’s visit coincided with our book week at primary school. Her passion for well-being and mental health resonated deeply with the IB curriculum’s emphasis on holistic education. By encouraging children to openly discuss their feelings, she empowered them to prioritize their mental well-being – a crucial lesson for young learners. Clare’s incorporation of her book series, “The Little Paws Hotel” and “The Animorals,” seamlessly connected literature with various units across the primary school curriculum. Her books not only entertained but also served as valuable tools for instilling important values such as empathy, curiosity, and open-mindedness. Clare’s presence as an author served as a powerful reminder of the impact of storytelling in education. Her ability to engage students and spark their imagination undoubtedly left a lasting impression. Additionally, her connection to ‘Speaking of Books’ provides educators with a convenient avenue to invite her for future events.
Overall, Clare Luther’s visit was a highlight of book week, fostering a culture of literacy, empathy, and well-being within the school community. Her message and stories will undoubtedly continue to inspire students to be thoughtful and compassionate individuals. Thank you, Clare!

Wow! What an incredible and valuable session from Clare and I feel we could all learn something from her style and enthusiasm. Clare had a large group of children with SEND and Behaviour concerns in her session and yet every single child stayed interested and engaged throughout her session. Clare’s story, props, reading style and energy captured the room including all of the supporting adults. The story and session was interesting and interactive.

Clare was amazing, the children were absolutely in awe of her! From the moment they stepped into the hall, she connected with them and made them feel comfortable, happy and involved. Clare shared the story ‘Peggy’ which was perfect for our Reception cohort as the children could easily relate to it. – .

Parents

Mum S – Being Understood

I feel like I’ve been really understood here. I can see how able my daughter is to express herself and maybe I’ve not appreciated the stress at home on my daughter by caring for my son.

Mum P – Developing Listening Skills

I’ve never thought about how much is going on around my daughter that might affect her listening skills. I’ll definitely have a rethink about the background noise and the amount of words I use to say things. I’ve really enjoyed seeing how well she played here and being able to put some strategies into practice in the session.

Mr Rama Nauth at Storyclub

As a former Primary school teacher, I would recommend her series of books to be in every classroom. She has opened my eyes as a parent to create a wonderful everlasting bond with my son through nurture, empathy and praise. Being immersed in the story club session felt for us, like stepping into the magical fictional world of Willy Wonka and his chocolate factory… a wonderful world of pure imagination where no dreams seem impossible.
